Due to globalization and rapid migration, native languages are being replaced by hegemonic languages, resulting in chronic language attrition. Despite the existence of approximately 6,000 languages in the world, only 4% of them are used by the majority of the global population.
"Sorry for your loss" is an initiative that aims to address and raise awareness about the global epidemic of losing one's native language. Each edition focuses on different indigenous languages from around the world. The current edition highlights the Burmese language, a Sino-Tibetan language spoken by Burmese nationals. The initiative is presented as an exhibition, where visitors can reminisce and reconnect with their lost language through various interactive displays. These displays range from visual poems to tactile and interactive digital pieces.
